The RUD Super Greifsteg tire chains are aggressive chains that are built to last. If you have a job for a piece of equipment to dig you out of deep snow, or need snow removal from a road or parking lot, these chains are for you. Super Greifstegs are a long-life tire chain; manufactured from high-quality alloy steel and are reversible for extended usage.

The strength and durability of the Super Griefsteg tire chains has resulted in a reputation in several industries which commonly make use of this high grade chain.

1. Snow plow removal equipment used by the Department of Transportation in many states
2. Heavy commercial equipment
3. Emergency medical service vehicles including ambulances and paramedics
4. Dump Trucks
5. Back Hoes
6. Unimogs
7. Heavy duty military equipment

The Super Greifsteg tire chains pay for themselves quickly as they have many advantages over many other tire chains. The Super Greifsteg’s well-constructed mesh design and wear bars provide extra traction and wear area. Also, they are reversible for extended life. These high-quality tire chains are not only distinguished by their high resistance to wear but also by the innovative design which allows for maximum traction, smooth running performance and exceptional tire protection.

Not Made In China
These chains are German engineered and made in Europe. Currently, these chains are assembled in Romania.

We often hear stories from customers praising the abilities of these chains. Here is an example of an email we received from an end user.

Dear Katie,

A few weeks ago I ordered a set of pattern chains (Super Greifstegs) for my husband’s backhoe. He has always thought that there is no chain better than a Pewag. His mind has definitely been changed! Here are a couple of pictures from our last snow storm that included 40 MPH winds.

Thank you for all of your help.

Please continue asking us your pre-sales questions regarding snow chains here. The Ask Us portal has been working out very well for us and our customers.

For snow chain sales, it was a mostly mild January with a few bursts of sales due to some scattered snow storms nationwide, mostly in the north and north eastern areas. In all, I think snow chain sales were about 1/3 of what we are use to seeing in January. We will be watching the weather reports for February to see if the winter we are use to seeing at this time of the year returns.

In the meantime, we still have great deals available. The price for the PL Series chains were reduced last month to $21 – a bargain found no where else. Price reductions were also made on the Easy 2 Go models and the available Centrax models. Sales on the Grip 4×4 and the Olympia Sprints have also continued to go forward as we always have good pricing on these popular chains.

Be safe during the month of February.

The other day, I was looking for weather information regarding Mammoth Lakes and came across a really cool up-to-date website by a local person living in Mammoth. As I was looking over the site, I thought to myself, I care because Mammoth weather and the sales of snow chains are actually quite closely connected. I reached out to the owner of the site to discover that our weather blogger is also a real estate agent living in Mammoth.

So if you are looking for property in Mammoth, I suggest you contact Howard Scheckter at 760-924-0213.

Walk and Work with RUD Shoe Chains!

A safety product designed for fall prevention on snow and ice is the RUD Bergsteiger® original shoe chains. These shoe chains are designed to fit comfortably on your footwear and not roll off as you walk on slick surfaces. These chains provide excellent traction on snow and ice and are the professional choice for utility workers, delivery personnel, maintenance workers, winter sports persons and hikers. They are ideal for mountain trekking in summer and winter. Slick surfaces such as snow, ice, oil, mud, slippery rocks, and wet grass can cause accidents that can be prevented by the use of wearing RUD Shoe Chains, which provides the user with traction and helps prevent falls.

Both the Bergsteiger® and the QuickStep® chains are made from case-hardened, high-grade cadmium-plated steel chain links. They provide for exceptional grip and are designed for use on slippery grounds such as ice and snow.

Bergsteiger®
The Bergsteiger® is a wise investment for anyone that must be out walking or hiking in winter conditions. These shoe chains are made up of individually welded chain links to provide extra grip for better traction and vulcanized rubber, which allows for years of reliable use and quick and easy installation. The Bergsteiger® is available in four sizes and can be easily slipped on to the footwear as needed. The compact carry-bag is the size of a camera case and easily attaches to the user’s belt which is very convenient making them handy when you need them. From experience, I would say however that the user should allow the chains to dry before returning them to their carrying case – it may get a little wet when the conditions warm up.

RUD Quickstep®
The RUD Quickstep® works great for dress shoes. The compact packaging is small enough to fit in most handbags or glove compartments. The Quickstep® shoe chains are small and versatile, making them an ideal choice for working women, since they can fit on a variety of shoes, from the stylish boots or a pair of sneakers.

One standard among all tire chain manufacturers is that the recommended maximum speed is 30 MPH. You will see this standard listed in pretty much every catalog – whether it be RUD, SCC, Peerless, Pewag, Leclede, etc.

My personal experience with driving with snow chains is that when you are driving 30 MPH, the chains or cables feel right. You have good control of your vehicle and there is a comforting belief that you will be safe. Nevertheless, it takes a lot of will power to not go faster. Who really wants to drive that slow? The times I drove 35 MPH, I felt okay. However, times I have gotten up to 40MPH, the drive of the vehicle has a different feeling and it does not feel so safe.

I am always amused when driving on highways during snow storms in the city where it seems there is always one person that wants to zoom through traffic only for you to pass them 5 minutes later as they are stuck in the center divider. Driving with snow chains is no different. Snow chains obviously greatly enhance your vehicles grip on the road; nevertheless, you are not immune to the hazards of nature so drive slow.

There is another problem with driving too fast – broken chains. Since selling chains in 2008 and having sold over 4,000 sets, I have received three reports of broken chains. While it is not easy to verify to the last detail the cause of the failures, I have discussed it with the manufacture and have received the following guidance.

1. Always make certain your chains fit snug to the tire. Chains that are too large and flop around are at risk of breaking.

2. Drive at or near the 30MPH speed limit when driving with chains.

In one of the three cases of a broken chain, I was able to verify from the driver that they were travelling consistently at speeds of 40 MPH to 45 MPH. With the other two cases, details are not verified.

This particular tire size was previously only spec’d for the Rud Centrax 4716733 found at http://tirechaindealer.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=155. Of course, not everyone wants to spend that much money for snow chains unless they have to – such as the vehicle requires a chain that does not impede on the inner sidewall. However, if you have a vehicle with this tire size and you want a lower priced product, the Centrax may not be right for you.

Daimler contacted me looking for chains for this size – 255/45R18. So I took another trip to Firestone with both Grip 4×4 options and Easy2Go options. All of the Easy2Go models where too small for this tire size. The Grip 4×4 had two options that would fit. Grip 4×4 0143 could work; however, it is almost too big. The Grip 4×4 0139 fit perfect. So now, the catalog is now updated with a Grip 4×4 added as an option for this tire size.
