They were awesome! I used them a couple of times in the Sierras, and I was able to put them on before other folks could even put on their snow pants (I got some funny stares because we were so fast). The traction was more than sufficient. It was difficult to tell if they rode any more smoothly - all chains sound awful. I have no idea at this point about long term usage (e.g. I know with the Thule summit chains there are some complaints about losing chains if tire pressure dropped a few pounds.)

I will say that the fitting process at home took some time (maybe an hour). You definitely want to do this at home. Also, the size chart said that they would fit without removing any of the fasteners, but I had to remove 3 to get them to fit my tires. I actually read about someone else having this experience - otherwise, I might have just assumed they would fit and not spent so much time driving up and down my driveway, which would have been a mistake.

Travis,

It is not listed on the catalog. Nevertheless, I would expect the Compact Grip 1530 to work for you.

Best wishes.

Samuel,

I have the Compact Grip 1525 that fits this tire size. It is a Class "S" chain. However, my understanding is that the Prius is real tight on the inside wall for clearance. I recommend you find the SCC Super Z6 cable. It has the least amount of clearance of all chains and cables aside from the Centrax (not spec'd for your size) the Thule K-Summit (weak reviews) and the Spikes Spider (very expensive but a very good product).

Hope this helps.

I am looking for a tire chain that will fit a 185/55r16 on a Honda Fit. Is there one out there that will fit this? Something by RUD preferably.

Peter,

http://tirechaindealer.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?tiresize=12.5-20

The recommended chains for plowing with a Unimog is the Supergreifsteg - 4716741. The Olympia Sprints 311 will also fit, but is not really tested for Unimog plowing. If you only plan to plow once or twice, go with the Olympia Sprints. If it is an ongoing thing, go with the Supergriefsteg.

I need chains for plowing with my 1984 Mercedes u1200 Unimog. The tires are 12.5 x 20. What do you recommend and how soon would I have them in Vermont?
Thanks,
Peter

Karen,

I believe we spoke on the phone last night. Thanks for asking your question here.

Due to the clearance requirements of the Audi A4, you run the risk of damaging your vehicle using most chains. The best option we have is the Centrax.

Thanks for your inquiry on the Skid Steer Chains. The skid steer chains are a drop ship item for us from RUD Chain in Hiawatha, IA. They usually have it is stock, but in case they don't due to heavy sales, they have a team that assembles them with a lead time of usually one day.

Best wishes.
