Im looking for the Grip 4X4 in size to fit 265 70 19.5?? I only see the Olympia listed in that size. Is there a reason?? Its for a 3/4 Dodge. I really want the no moving install. Thanks

    • Brian Nettles says:

I am afraid the Grip 4×4 2533 – the largest model – is too small for this large of a tire size. Our only option is the Olympia Sprints 136 or perhaps a Supergreifsteg. You will find the Olympia Sprints to be a very good quality and strong chain for your vehicle. Installation is not difficult and it has stronger commercial strength side components than the Grip 4×4. Sorry we cannot accommodate the Grip 4×4 – they just don’t make them that large.

Hello, I’ve been searching for tire chains for my BMW X3 2011. Tire size is 245/55R17. You indicate that the RUD Centrax 4716734 will fit this tire. Given that my BMW Dealer could not find anything for me, I just want to check that this will work and if so, do you have it in stock? Thanks, Tom.

    • Brian Nettles says:

      Tom,

It seems that most buyers of the Centrax are BMW owners and it seems to be working for them. I am hoping that after we get some good snow fall nationwide, I can get some feedback from the people who have purchased the Centrax to help out future customers such as yourself. And yes, the RUD Centrax 4716734 is spec’d for the tire size you are looking to fit it to. I still have some of this model number still in stock. Some of the other model numbers I am already sold out of.

      Best wishes.

Greetings from Australia Brian and team.

I am an Australian serving submariner finally on shore respite. Having just moved to my nations capital, Canberra, from a sunny and snow less Perth in Western Australia. As such I now have the time to utilize my 4WD in the snow fields this coming winter season (June-Oct). I am wondering if you and the team ship to Australia? Obviously weight is a consideration and surface/sea mail would be ideal.
A fellow submariner and I are after a set each of RUD GRIP 4×4 – 0142 [420142] to suit Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R’s (245/65R17 tires).
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Cheers and many thanks, Adrian

    • Brian Nettles says:

      Adrian,

I look up the shipping costs using both UPS.com and the United States Postal Service and the shipping charges are prohibitive – appx $450. So, I don’t think this will work. I am able to ship the Grip 4×4 to Canada for about $70. I am afraid shipping to Australia just isn’t going to work.

      • Adrian Harrison says:

Thank you for the prompt response Brian. $450 is a bit prohibitive isn’t it! I may ask to utilize a USN colleagues DPO/AP address. At least then it is simply postage to San Diego.
Many thanks and all the best for you and yours in 2012.

  4. D Boylan says:

Which RUD compact grip can I use for 235/75/15 XL? RUD grip my preference is not ‘S’ class, my vehicle, 95 E-150 Wagon calls for S clearance.

    Thanks

    • Brian Nettles says:

Your tire size specs to the RUD Grip 4×4 0142. However, since your wagon has an S Class requirement, I would recommend you instead look at some cables such as the SCC SuperZLT. I am sorry that we do not sell this product. You may want to try a local Pep Boys store or one of the other sites online.

  5. Jeremiah Lehman says:

Hi, I’m looking at getting a set of chains. I did not see my tire size, which is 315/75/16 or equal to 34.5 x 12.5″. I’m looking at your grip 4×4. Please let me know which size I should go with. Thanks.

    Jeremiah

  6. Hector F. says:

Is the $127 for one chain or a pair Skid Steer – 2229-4L ?

    Thank You!

    Hector F.

    • Brian Nettles says:

      Hector,

All chains including the Skid Steer Chains come as a set of 2 – one set covers two tires. I evidently need to update the catalog making that more clear.

These skid steer chains are made from heat treated hardened alloy, so they are the good quality chains.

      Best wishes.

  7. Carl Seguin says:

I can not seem to get a quote for shipping to Kamloops, BC V2H 0B2, for 2 pairs of tire socks, for my car, XJ8, Carl

  8. Michael C. says:

Is there a RUD product for 255/70R16 that will meet Class S standards?

    • Brian Nettles says:

Currently there is not. I am pushing real hard for RUD to get something for next season, but not currently. My recommendation is that you go with the SuperZLT made by SCC. It is as good a Z Patterned cable as you could find for light trucks and SUVs. We do not sell this item.

  9. Joe Moore says:

    Brian Nettles;

    Hi, I’m looking at getting a set of chains. {Easy 2 Go}
Can I buy the chains in Tucson, AZ and pick them up.

I live in El Paso Tx.
I make a lot of trips to Tucson Az.

    Thanks, Joe

    • Brian Nettles says:

Yes, you can pick them up. Let me know which model before you come so I can verify it is still in stock.

      Cheers.

  10. Eric J says:

Hi Brian, I am planning to puchase a set of the RUD Grip and PL chains for my Toyota Land Cruiser. (I don’t expect to use the PL chains but they are cheap just in case.) Would you recommend putting the Grip on the front and the PL on the rear tires? I have locking center and rear differentials. What is the weight of the PL chains?
Also, are the PL chains suitable for a Honda Odyssey van or is there insufficient clearance? Thanks, Eric

  11. Eric J says:

Hi Brian, Sorry my previous question was premature. Now I see the PL chains are for passenger vehicles and not available in the right size for the Land Cruiser – it is 275/70R16. Bill Burke has recommendations on front/rear placement of one set at http://www.bb4wa.com/articles/Chains.html.

    • Brian Nettles says:

      Eric,

You are correct in that the PL Series chains won’t work for your Land Cruiser. They are too small to get on the tire and not made for heavier vehicles.

That Bill Burke article is heavily referenced. I like where he says

If you can only afford one set, and you’re going to be in 4WD on a trail, I recommend putting them on the front axle since you have steering, braking, and traction. However, be careful on long descents since you’re getting such good traction with the front end, and the rear is not chained, it may swing around on you. So it might be better for those descents to chain up the rear.

I have had that rear end swing around on me before and it is not fun.

      Best wishes.

  12. Robert says:

I am looking for the Grip 4×4 chains for a Mickey Thompson tire size 35×13.50R20LT.
Do not see the size listed on your site.

    Thanks.

    • Brian Nettles says:

Robert, I would have to get with RUD to see if they have any recommendations. Hopefully, one of the Olympia Sprints will work for you. Let me get back with you on this one.

    • Brian Nettles says:

Robert, my first guess was the Olympia Sprints 141 model. However, Katie over at RUD Chain says even the 141 is not wide enough. She is now consulting with the parent corp of RUD Chain in Germany. It will be another day or two before we have an answer.

      Best wishes

  13. richard tovar says:

I have a 2002 ford ranger 2 wheel drive truck. I travel on a 1.5 mile gravel road daily.
Some sections of the road have a 5% grade. I am not sure which Rud product would
fill my needs best. The tire size is p235 75/15 (tire clearance is not a problem).

    thanks.

  14. Mark Edens says:

How durable are tire socks? How long do they last?

    • Brian Nettles says:

      Mark,

Feedback that I have received is that those who purchase the Tire Socks really like them. However, durability is not the strong part of them. As long as you are driving on paved highway, they will last you for quite a few rides. However, if you hit gravel, they tear up rather quickly. That is the downside of the product.

      Best wishes,
