We are now stocking three stores near the base of Big Bear with tire chains made by RUD Chain. Two of them are stocking the Grip 4×4. All three are selling the PL Series of Chains. All three are prime locations to cater to those needing to drive up to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead when needing snow chains. All three have good pricing.
1. Arco Station – Mentone

This station was not an Arco Station last year, it was a no-named brand Mentone Gas and Minimart. I was happy for them that they were able to take on the Arco name. The manager informed me that gas sales have just skyrocketed since they made that change. I hope it continues to work well for them. They are once again stocking both the PL Series chains and the Grip 4×4 chains. They sold a lot of RUD brand tire chains last season.
This gas station is one of the last gas stations prior to the chain up spots taking the back road to Big Bear on Highway 38. In fact, they have asked me for another large sign for customers to see thier tire chains offering for when they have been turned back by the CHP at the chain up point. Their prices are very reasonable – $40 for the PL Series chains and $129 for the Grip 4×4.
2. Chevron Station – Redlands

This store is at the entry point to the back side of getting to Big Bear at Highway 38. While the address states 120 The Terrace, the actual cross streets are Colton and 6th Street in Highlands. Get off the 10 freeway at Orange, go North (towards the mountains), turn right on Colton and go about 2 or 3 blocks. It is on your right hand side.
We put in a good stock of Grip 4x4s and the PL Series chains today. The Grip 4×4 will sell at $120 at this station. The PL Series chains will sell at $40.
Their station was real busy today. I could not believe the constant in-stream of customers while I was stocking the store. The owner told me it was because it was the day after Thanksgiving, that is why it was so busy. That was definately good for his business today. Hopefully his store does well at selling snow chains when the storms hit.

This store is closer to the Running Springs entry to Big Bear. We only stocked this store with the PL Series chains as they are also stocking cables from SCC. I looked at their pricing for thier SCC cables and have to say the thier prices are very good. So if you want PL Series chains or SCC cables, it is a store I recommend. The PL Series chains will sell at almost the same price as in the other stores I am stocking in the area – actually, they are pricing them $2.00 cheaper at $37.95. They are not stocking the Grip 4×4 at this location.
